About

Knot By Gran'ma is a small, eco-friendly, one lady (Jess) business of crocheted art monsters and crochet patterns... mostly. I also make cat and pug butts, which amuse me to no end. There's also fun hats for people and critters. I'm in the midst of figuring out the details for kid friendly monster dolls. Each piece or pattern is created by my own hands.

I try to keep KBG as eco-friendly as possible. All of the new art monsters are stuffed with plastic grocery bags. They're staying out of landfills, rivers, and other nice places. The children's monsters will not be stuffed with plastic bags due to safety issues. They will be stuffed with wool fiber fill... as this is a sustainable resource thanks to sheep.

I use a variety of fibers but am slowly trying to switch over to strictly wool for the body of all the pieces. (This will take a while, as I have to use my existing stash of various fibered yarns before I can restock with new wool.)

All monsters leave home in a previously used plastic bag... or carefully stockpiled bubble wrap from my own personal purchases. Each item has a label that is made from recycled magazines, and all of the sticker labels are printed on recycled paper. There are no paper receipts sent with orders. Each purchase is accompanied by an emailed receipt once the item(s) has shipped.

With time, Knot By Gran'ma will improve on this system and become even more friendly to our planet.

I get to wear a mom/wife hat when I'm not busy making monsters. If you read through the blog you'll see snippets of Dr. Destructo, Kiddo, and Hubs.

We have a variety of pets living at Knot By Gran'ma central. Agamemnon the pug, Louie (aka Pouis the Puma) and Babycakes the cats, Thunderbolt the bunny, and a handful of chickens. I won't name them here though. This is an odd enough little blurb as it is. Kiddo also has a beta fish named Garfield. Whatever.

We try to garden what we can in the summer months and preserve what we can for the winter. Life is pretty good, and we're trying to enjoy every part of it.

Our family (and even the pets) helps influence the creatures I crochet. Kiddo has been known to sketch out monsters that he'd like to see me create. I'm sure once Dr. Destructo is old enough, I'll have double the input.  Hubs is getting used to the insanity of it all.
